This is my week thirteen fantasy hockey report for those competing in
head to head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep
league acquisition targets. This is more of a “waiver wire” report, looking for
those who are more likely to be available in your league as opposed to the
universally owned players. I also do not recommend any players who play 2 games
or less over the next 7 days (Monday to Sunday), with a preference for those
with 4 or more games.
Best Standard League Adds (20% to 60% Yahoo ownership):
1) Alex Killorn, TB, (45% Yahoo ownership): Killorn may not be
playing on Tampa’s top line, but he’s still on the top power play and the 2nd
line with Cirelli and Stamkos is pretty good too. If you are streaming him
today for their game against Detroit, then you may as well hold on to him for
another week, as the Lightning will be playing 4 games. The winger has scored 15
PTS in his last 12 GP and is on pace for a 75-point season. He’s more than just
a streamer, worthy of a permanent roster spot in shallow leagues.
2) Tony DeAngelo, NYR, (48% Yahoo ownership): DeAngelo continues
to put up points (10 PTS in his last 15 GP) and has been keeping pace with the
elite tier of defensemen in the NHL, on pace for a 57-point season. The growth
of his fantasy ownership has leveled off, as he was just 44% owned at the
beginning of the month. I’m confused. The season is almost half over, and a
defenseman with a shot at 60 PTS is owned in less than half of fantasy leagues.
Come on people, this kid needs to be added in more leagues. He’s also putting
up good peripherals, with 18 shots and 13 hits in his last 6 games.
3) Brandon Tanev, Pit, (26% Yahoo ownership): If your league does
not count hits, you may disregard this recommendation. Tanev has only produced
5 PTS in his last 13 GP, but over that span he has also posted 45 hits. The Penguins
play 4 games next week, so this guy can help you win that category.
4) Vincent Trocheck, Fla, (54% Yahoo ownership): The Panthers
probably have the best schedule of any team this week with 4 games, two of them
against below average goaltending. The second line with Trocheck and Acciari
has been impressive over the past 2 weeks, with Vinny putting up 5 PTS in his
last 5 GP with 15 shots and 10 hits. The center only eligibility makes him hard
to own long-term in shallow leagues, but his short-term appeal is high. You may
also want to consider Acciari if you’d prefer to grab a winger.
5) Jaroslav Halak, Bos, (49% Yahoo ownership): The Bruins only
play 3 games, but they are all against bad teams. Halak may only get 1 start,
but it’s almost guaranteed to be a win. If he manages to get 2 starts, then you’re
really looking good. Over the past 30 days, Halak has produced a 2.00 GAA and
.924 SV%, which are close to his season-long numbers. You may not need to hold
him for the entire week, just try to spot start his games if he’s available in
your league.
Last Week: Alex Killorn, Erik Gustafsson, Christian Dvorak, Clayton Keller, Joonas
Korpisalo
Best Deep League Adds (under 20% ownership):
1) Barclay Goodrow, SJ, (14% Yahoo ownership): This has been mostly
a disastrous season for the San Jose Sharks, but Goodrow is having a career
year. Last season’s 16 PTS in 82 GP was his previous career high, and he’s
already got 17 PTS in 40 GP this season. This is already his best season ever.
The second half is just going to pad that total. Goodrow has been playing on the Sharks top
line with Logan Couture and Evander Kane, which is a good place to be. The
Sharks play 4 games this week, so this is a very strong streaming target for
deeper leagues.
2) Anthony Cirelli, TB, (10% Yahoo ownership): If Cirelli had
wing eligibility, his fantasy ownership would be substantially higher, pacing
for 54 PTS. This kid is really good and gets a ton of ice time on the 2nd
line with Stamkos. The Lightning play 4 games this week, and only 1 against a
team currently in a playoff spot. Tampa has the potential to put up some big
numbers, even if their season to date has been lackluster.
3) John Marino, Pit, (11% Yahoo ownership): When I went to see
Pittsburgh play last week, I was expecting Marino to be big, slow, with limited
mobility in the pocket, firing laser beam passes with remarkable precision. Not
sure why I thought that, must be the name. As it turns out, this less famous
Marino actually has good mobility and is a quality defenseman. Over his last 5
GP, he has produced 4 PTS with a +6 rating (17 PTS in 36 GP this season, a 38-point pace). The Pens play 4 games this week, so Johnny
is a very good deep league streaming target.
4) Kevin Hayes, Phi, (18% Yahoo ownership): Hayes isn’t someone I’m
looking at as a 1-week streamer, but rather a player with longer term appeal in
deep leagues. Much like Cirelli, if he had wing eligibility this ownership
would be much higher. Hayes has produced 11 PTS in his last 13 GP, with 40
shots. The Flyers second line with Van Riemsdyk and Farabee has been very productive.
The downside from a streaming perspective is the Flyers only play 3 games, all
on busy nights, so you may have difficulty fitting Hayes into your line-up.
5) Aaron Dell, SJ, (4% Yahoo ownership): I’m not about to buy a
membership in the Aaron Dell Fan Club, as he’s been among the worst goalies in
the league for the past two seasons. But he’s actually been decent over his
last 7 games, posting a .911 SV%, earning himself a great time-share with
Martin Jones. The Sharks are playing 4 games next week, and Dell is a lock to
play in at least two. You can find him on almost every waiver wire. So if you’re
desperate for starts in a really deep league, it might be worth a short-term roll of
the dice. If he can draw the Red Wings and Blue Jackets games, he’s got a good shot
at 2 wins.
Last Week: Noel Acciari, James Reimer, Dmitry Orlov, Zach Hyman, Nino
Niederreiter
