2019/20 Week 19 NHL Fantasy Hockey Report

This is my week nineteen fantasy hockey report for those competing in head to head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep league acquisition targets. This is more of a “waiver wire” report, looking for those who are more likely to be available in your league as opposed to the universally owned players. I also do not recommend any players who play 2 games or less over the next 7 days (Monday to Sunday), with a preference for those with 4 or more games.

Best Standard League Adds (20% to 60% Yahoo ownership):

1) Viktor Olofsson, Buf, (57% Yahoo ownership): Olofsson has returned from injury and is back on the top line with Jack Eichel. The Sabres don’t have a great streaming schedule this week, but Olofsson is someone you should be considering as a long-term hold if he happens to be on your waiver wire. In his one game since returning, he scored 2 goals. I’m buying up all the Olofsson stock I can find, regardless of streaming schedule.

2) Andre Burakovsky, Col, (50% Yahoo ownership): Burakovsky was on my list of recommended adds last week when he was playing on the Avs 2nd line with Kadri, who has since been injured, leading to a line shake-up that put Burakovsky back on MacKinnon’s wing. The Avs have a 4-game week, and some of their upcoming opponents have been struggling. Burakovsky is both a great streaming option and a long-term hold candidate so long as that deployment lasts. He has scored 14 PTS in his last 10 GP.

3) Jason Zucker, Pit, (55% Yahoo ownership): Zucker is another you should be considering as a both a streamer and potential long-term hold if he’s on your waiver wire. In 2 games playing with Crosby he has scored 2 goals. It would be better if he was also playing on the top power play, but is still a possible lottery ticket at 5v5. The Pens play Tue-Thu-Sat-Sun, which makes him tougher to fit into your roster this week, but there are some bad defensive teams coming up, Toronto twice and Buffalo.

4) Antti Raanta, Ari, (53% Yahoo ownership): I’ve been on and off the Raanta bandwagon at various times this season, as he’s had some injury issues mixed in with inconsistent stretches, but he’s playing good right now. Over his last 5 starts he’s posted a .936 SV% and 2.02 GAA. The Coyotes play 4 games this week and Raanta has won the primary starting duty over Adin Hill. I have my own waiver claim for Raanta as a streamer, but he’ll probably be on my bench if he starts the Tampa game Saturday.

5) Jakob Chychrun, Ari, (41% Yahoo ownership): Over his last 11 GP, Chychrun has scored 7 PTS with 33 shots and 17 hits, averaging 22:30 of ice time. It was between him and Parayko for my top streamer on defense, but I decided to go with Chychrun because he’s more widely available. I added Parayko to my own team as a streamer last week, and am going to hang on for at least one more.

Last Week: MacKenzie Blackwood, Colton Parayko, Blake Coleman, Ilya Kovalchuk, Andre Burakovsky

Best Deep League Adds (under 22% ownership):

1) Zach Sanford, Stl, (22% Yahoo ownership): Sanford makes a second consecutive appearance on my deep league waiver recommendation list, having scored 5 goals in the last 7 days. He’s actually been good for a few weeks now, but his stock has been slow to react until his recent 4 goal game. If you added him last week, let it ride. If he’s on your waiver wire (especially in leagues that count hits), now is a great time to take him for a spin. You won’t feel bad dropping him if he goes cold.

2) Anthony Beauvillier, NYI, (21% Yahoo ownership): In a 12-game stretch from mid December to mid January, Beauvillier scored just one point. Since then he has scored 13 PTS in 13 GP. The Islanders play 4 games this week, including Detroit and San Jose on Fri-Sun. If you’d rather skip Arizona and Colorado, there will be a rush to add Islanders as weekend streamers. Eberle and Bailey are also decent options to add on Thursday night in deeper leagues.

3) Aaron Dell, SJ, (20% Yahoo ownership): The Sharks season has gone from ugly to horrific with a surplus of disastrous injuries to star players, yet have still won 4 of their last 5 games. Dell has been getting a majority of the time share, posting a .914 SV% over the last 30 days. The Sharks have a busy week ahead, with a few weak teams on the slate, and Dell should get you starts. Martin Jones did get a shutout last night, so that might be a short-term threat to Dell’s playing time. But if that means he starts against the Devils and Islanders, I’m in. (that being said, I'm also recommending Islanders as weekend streamers, so yeah...)

4) Tyler Toffoli, LA, (10% Yahoo ownership): If you need goals and shots, Tyler Toffoli could serve a useful purpose for you in deep leagues this week. Over his last 7 GP, Toffoli has scored 5 goals with 28 shots and is available in 91% of leagues. He’s also likely to be traded before the deadline, and if he lands in a desirable situation, there will be a rush to add him. The Kings play 4 games this week (Tue-Thu-Sat-Sun) and have some weak defensive teams on the slate.

5) Devon Toews, NYI, (8% Yahoo ownership): Toews hasn’t been on my radar very often this season, as his performance has been underwhelming. The young defenseman has managed to score 7 PTS in his last 11 GP, where he’s been averaging 22:21 of ice time. D-Toews is also playing on the Islanders top power play unit, which has helped contribute to his production. He’s even worth considering in shallower leagues as a Fri-Sun streamer.

Last Week: Pavel Buchnevich, Zach Sanford, Damon Severson, Juuse Saros, Jesper Bratt
