Fantasy Hockey 2021/22 Week 19 Waiver Wire Report

Welcome to my 2021/22 Week Nineteen Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report for those competing in head-to-head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep league acquisition targets. This report focuses on the best options among those who are likely to be available in your league as opposed to the universally owned players. There are 10 recommendations in total, 2 goalies, 2 defensemen, and 6 forwards. Some of these are only short-term targets, while others you may want to keep permanently.

Best Standard League Adds (25% to 65% Yahoo ownership):

1) Jesper Bratt, NJ, (55% Yahoo ownership): It may be time for me to buy a membership in the Jesper Bratt fan club, as the Devils winger continues to light the lamp, scoring 48 PTS in 47 GP this season. He’s scoring above a point per game pace with more than half the season completed (including 5 PTS in his last 2 GP) yet is still available in 45% of Yahoo leagues. He’s made a few appearances on my weekly waiver report. The Devils have a 4-game slate coming up, and the team has a few fantasy options worthy of a stream.

2) Jeremy Swayman, BOS, (65% Yahoo ownership): Jeremy Swayman has played 6 games in February after the re-retirement of Tuukka Rask, posting a spectacular .951 SV% with 4 wins over that span. He has been getting 2 of every 3 starts and the Bruins are going to be playing 4 games this week. Swayman will get at least 2, possibly 3 starts. If he has already been scooped up in your league, you can always settle for one of the Los Angeles gatekeepers as the Kings have won 8 of their last 10 games and 4 matches ahead.

3) Jaccob Slavin, Car, (63% Yahoo ownership): The Hurricanes number one power play quarterback Tony DeAngelo is injured, and Slavin has been the primary beneficiary. The defenseman led the team in total minutes with the man advantage on Friday and has scored 7 PTS in his last 11 GP, adding 22 shots with a +4. Carolina plays 4 games this week, and some of their opponents have been struggling at goal prevention. Another PP1 blueliner worth considering is Jared Spurgeon in Minnesota, who has 5 PTS in his last 12 GP.

4) Adrian Kempe, LA, (49% Yahoo ownership): You may not be aware that Adrian Kempe is on pace for a 40-goal season, succeeding on the Kings top line with Kopitar and Iafallo. Los Angeles will play 4 games this week, including the defensively porous Sabres and Blue Jackets. It’s hard to fathom that a player pacing for 40 goals at this point in the season would be owned in less than half of fantasy leagues, but that may be symptom of how many casual fantasy managers quit during the Covid madness in Dec & Jan.

5) Cole Caufield, Mtl, (52% Yahoo ownership): The Montreal Canadiens might only play 3 games this week (and 3 next) but Cole Caufield may be evolving into more than just a streamer (scoring 10 PTS in his last 8 GP). It appears as though Martin St. Louis has unlocked a cheat code for the diminutive sniper and he may need to be universally owned going forward. If you need some extra games, you might want to try Matt Boldy in Minnesota, as the Wild will play 7 times in the next 12 days. Boldy should have a higher peripheral floor.

Honorable Mentions: Matt Boldy, Jared Spurgeon, Jonathan Quick, Viktor Arvidsson, Nico Hischier

Last Week: Jake Oettinger, Michael Bunting, Josh Morrissey, Boone Jenner, Mason Marchment

Best Deep League Adds (under 25% ownership):

1) Laurent Brossoit, VGK, (18% Yahoo ownership): I would have considered Brossoit for this slot last week as he fills in for the injured Robin Lehner, but Vegas only played twice and one of the games was against Colorado. Lehner has been on the ice practicing, but is still on IR with no immediate word of when he might return. Brossoit has filled in admirably during Lehner’s absence, posting a .919 SV% in his last 5 games. The Knights play 4 times this week, so even if Lehner returns, Brossoit should still see action.

2) Yegor Sharangovich, NJ, (11% Yahoo ownership): After a slow start to the season, last year’s rookie sensation Sharangovich is rolling again. In his last 11 GP, the winger has netted 10 PTS with 23 shots, playing on the Devils top line with Jack Hughes and Dawson Mercer (who is also worth considering as a streamer). Yegor is on pace for 46 PTS, which is just slightly higher than last season. This team might not be very good at the moment, but an area where they’re proving efficient is scoring goals, giving them fantasy appeal.

3) Brady Skjei, Car, (17% Yahoo ownership): My own little storm surge continues, with yet another Canes player recommended for streaming. If you’re in a deep league, do yourself a favor and check which Carolina players are available. Skjei isn’t getting any power play time, but he’s been a steady producer across multiple categories. Over his last 11 GP, the defenseman has scored 6 PTS with 21 shots and 18 hits. You may also want to see if Damon Severson is available in New Jersey, though Dougie Hamilton has returned from injury.

4) Trevor Moore, LA, (9% Yahoo ownership): Trevor Moore has sustained his deployment on the LA Kings second line with Danault and Arvidsson for several weeks, and continues scoring PTS with 9 in his last 8 games. The Kings have a desirable schedule coming up, and the team is hot. Moore was 0% owned on Yahoo from Oct 1 to Dec 31 and averaged 0% last season. He doesn’t exactly have a stellar track record of production, but he’s up to 30 PTS in 53 GP, and could breach the 50-point barrier by season’s end.

5) Jordan Staal, Car, (22% Yahoo ownership): Last season Jordan Staal averaged 2.5 hits per game, but that has jumped to 3.1 in the current campaign. Sadly, the stat that’s dropped significantly from last year is points, and don’t expect too much help from Jordan in that category. Over his last 11 GP, Staal has scored 7 PTS with 17 shots, 38 hits, and a +8. If hits don’t factor into your league scoring, you can disregard this recommendation. But category leagues that count hits, Staal could really help you out this week.

Honorable Mentions: Connor Brown, Corey Perry, Dawson Mercer, Damon Severson, J.F Berube,

Last Week: Gustav Nyquist, Brock Nelson, Yanni Gourde, Nate Schmidt, Eric Comrie
