2019 Week 10 NHL Fantasy Hockey Report

This is my week ten fantasy hockey report for those competing in head to head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep league acquisition targets. This is more of a “waiver wire” report, looking for those who are more likely to be available in your league as opposed to the universally owned players. I also do not recommend any players who play 2 games or less over the next 7 days (Monday to Sunday), with a preference for those with 4 or more games.

Best Standard League Adds (20% to 60% Yahoo ownership):

1) David Krejci, Bos, (57% Yahoo ownership): Bergeron remains injured, creating an opportunity for Krejci to play on the top line with Marchand and Pasternak. Bergeron could be returning soon, but it’s going to be a good week to own all Bruins whether that happens or not. Krejci has scored 16 PTS in his last 15 GP, over which time he’s posted a +13. His average ownership was 27% last season, and frequently found himself on my weekly streamer recommendation list.

2) Joonas Donskoi, Col, (46% Yahoo ownership): Landeskog is back and playing on the 2nd line. Donskoi’s value is dependent on playing on the top line with MacKinnon and Rantanen, which may just be a temporary placement. We might lack certainty over how long his current assignment will last, but you need to own him until this comes to an end. The Avs only play 3 games this week, the good news is, they will be on Mon-Wed-Fri light schedule nights when it’ll be easy to fit him into your line-up. Over his last 6 GP, Joonas has scored 9 PTS with a +8.

3) Tristan Jarry, Pit, (39% Yahoo ownership): The Pens might only play 3 games this week, but Jarry has been sensational over the past 14 days (6 GP, 4 wins, 1.88 GAA, .939 SV%, 2 shutouts) and I’m buying stock while he’s won the starting job over Matt Murray. It’s hard to say how long this last, but ride the wave while the iron is hot (sorry if I’m mixing my metaphors). I’m assuming that many of his new owners also have Matt Murray on their rosters, but if not, you should try selling high on Jarry to the Murray owner in your league. The Penguins continue to win despite devastating injuries.

4) Ryan Suter, Min, (54% Yahoo ownership): After a slow start to the season, Suter has started to produce (much like the Wild as a team), with the defenseman scoring 8 PTS in his last 10 GP. At age 34, there has been concerns that the heavy minutes Suter has been playing in Minnesota over the last 7 years were starting to catch up with him, but he’s on pace to score the same 47 PTS as last season. His shot volume is down, fortunately the points are still there.

5) Jason Zucker, Min, (28% Yahoo ownership): The Wild play 4 games this week and have won 7 of their last 10 GP. Over those 10 games, Zucker has produced 9 PTS playing on the top line with Staal and Zuccarello, also playing on the top power play unit. Despite all the trade rumours that have circulated around Zucker this year, he has quietly been having a solid season. He’s got dual wing eligibility, making him really easy to fit into your line-up.

Last Week: Brock Nelson, Corey Crawford, Victor Olofsson, Blake Coleman, Adam Fox

Best Deep League Adds (under 20% ownership):

1) Kevin Fiala, Min, (7% Yahoo ownership): Fiala only managed to produce one point in 8 GP in October, then followed that up with 11 PTS in 13 GP in November. Fiala has found great chemistry with Parise, and both players have managed to turn their seasons around. That trade is really looking good for the Wild, getting a younger, cheaper player that is under team control for more years than Granlund, who has struggled in Nashville.

2) Mats Zuccarello, Min, (15% Yahoo ownership):  Zuccarello was 43% owned on October 1st (his equilibrium value was around 30% last year as he battled injuries). Mats was heavily dropped after a slow start to the season, with 7 PTS in his first 16 GP. But now that the Wild have turned their season around, Zuccarello has popped 10 PTS in his last 10 GP, and is back on track. Expect to see his ownership grow considerably over the next month if this continues.

3) Malcom Subban, LV, (7% Yahoo ownership): Fleury took a leave of absence from the team for personal reasons, and Subban has filled in admirably in the Vegas net while he was gone (6 GP, 4 wins, 2.45 GAA, .923 SV%).  Fleury is back and will eventually recapture the starting duties, but Gallant has been easing him back into the line-up. The Knights play 4 games next week, so there will be plenty of opportunity for Subban to start even if Fleury is ready to play.

4) Tanner Pearson, TB, (17% Yahoo ownership): After a brief stint on the Pettersson-Boeser line, Pearson is back to playing with Bo Horvat, and continues to score points (8 PTS in his last 8 GP). The Canucks play 4 games this week, so now is a great time to roll the dice on Pearson as a weekly streamer that you can comfortably drop afterwards. I’m not buying the long-term sustainability of this hot streak.

5) Nate Schmidt, LV, (11% Yahoo ownership): If you added Schmidt to stream last week, you can keep him in your line-up for one more, as Vegas has another 4-game slate. There aren’t very many good deep league streaming options on the blueline, and Schmidt has proven he can reliably produce at a 40-point pace. He spent most of last season in the 20% ownership range after returning from suspension, so there is room for his ownership to grow.

Last Week: Linus Ullmark, Nikita Gusev, Nate Schmidt, Christian Dvorak, Brandon Saad

The 1% (best adds 1% owned or less):

1) Alex Iafallo, LA: Iafallo continues to see big minutes playing on the Kings top line with Kopitar and Brown, scoring 4 PTS in his last 7 GP. The Kings have a 4-game week ahead, so if you can scoop him up in your really deep leagues, this is a solid streaming target.

2) Jonas Brodin, Min: Brodin is not typically known as a point producer from the blueline, posting a career high of 25 PTS in 2017. That being said, he has scored 9 PTS in his last 14 GP and is on pace for a career high of 32 PTS. That’s great value from a player owned in 1% of leagues.

3) Scott Laughton, Phi: It’s not a great streaming schedule for the Flyers this week, but Laughton has been hot for a guy that’s only 1% owned, scoring 6 PTS in his last 6 GP. He’s currently listed on the Flyers 3rd line with Hayes and Farabee, yet has played over 17 minutes in each of the last 3 games. You can wait until the weekend and add him for Saturday and Sunday games.
