2019 Week 11 NHL Fantasy Hockey Report

This is my week eleven fantasy hockey report for those competing in head to head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep league acquisition targets. This is more of a “waiver wire” report, looking for those who are more likely to be available in your league as opposed to the universally owned players. I also do not recommend any players who play 2 games or less over the next 7 days (Monday to Sunday), with a preference for those with 4 or more games.

Best Standard League Adds (20% to 60% Yahoo ownership):

1) Anthony Duclair, Ott, (47% Yahoo ownership): Duclair was 17% owned on December 1st, and caught fire, scoring 10 PTS in 6 GP so far this month. He’s been near the top of the most added list for the last 14 days, and this upcoming week is a fantastic time to stream him in any format, with the Senators playing 4 games, including Monday-Tuesday. If your league values goals more than assists, then Duclair is even more appealing, as 12 of his last 15 PTS have been snipes.

2) Joonas Korpisalo, Cbj, (50% Yahoo ownership): It was not a great start to the season for Korpisalo, but he has very much turned a corner and found stability. Over the last 30 days, Korps has posted a 2.24 GAA and .920 SV%. The Blue Jackets play 4 games this week, 3 of those against really bad teams. There should be some easy wins on the slate. I added Korpisalo as a streamer in a 12-team standard league a few weeks ago, and he’s been too good to drop. I’ll be riding this at least 1 more week.

3) Andre Burakovsky, Col, (48% Yahoo ownership): Burakovsky has not posted an impressive stat line since his return from a brief “upper body” injury, but he’s once again listed as playing on the top line with Nathan MacKinnon, and I certainly want to own this guy so long as that assignment lasts. Rantanen and Landeskog will always be a threat to take back their former roles on MacKinnon’s wings, but I’ll happily roll the dice with anyone who gets that job, even if only on a temporary basis.

4) Ryan Graves, Col, (44% Yahoo ownership): Graves ownership is currently inflated far beyond its logical equilibrium and he’s not someone who should be holding a permanent roster spot in standard sized leagues. Having said that, this is a good week to own him in shallower category leagues that reward shots, hits, and +/-. Over his last 10 GP, Graves has posted 6 PTS, with 23 blocks, 15 hits, 22 shots, and a +12. Not all of that is sustainable, but for at least the next 7 days, Graves is a good streaming option. I’d be looking to sell high after Christmas.

5) Zack Kassian, Edm, (47% Yahoo ownership): Kassian is once again a great asset to own in leagues that count hits and the Oilers have a fantastic streaming schedule coming up with a 4-game week, 3 of those game on light schedule nights when he’ll be easy to fit into your roster. In his last 11 GP, Kassian has scored 7 PTS with 23 shots and 29 hits. The Zack Attack looks safe to hold his job playing with McDavid and Draisaitl. Most of his value comes from that deployment.

Last Week: David Krejci, Joonas Donskoi, Tristan Jarry, Ryan Suter, Jason Zucker

Best Deep League Adds (under 20% ownership):

1) Gustav Nyquist, Cbj, (19% Yahoo ownership): Nyquist scored an impressive 12 PTS in November, but only 2 thus far in December (6 GP). The speedster was hot and has since cooled off. Given the BJs enticing schedule this week, Nyquist deserves strong consideration if you’re looking for a high upside streamer. He’s currently listed on the 2nd line with Atkinson and Texier, and has been a fixture on the top power play unit for most of the season.

2) Samuel Girard, Col, (13% Yahoo ownership): A recent injury to Cale Makar has launched Girard onto the top power play unit Colorado, which resulted in 6:28 of PP time for Girard in their last game against New Jersey, where he recorded an assist. It’s uncertain when Makar will return, but in the meantime more people should be buying stock in Girard with that power play deployment. He doesn’t shoot or hit much, so he can hurt your peripherals in category leagues; this is a points play.

3) Calle Jarnkrok, Nsh, (14% Yahoo ownership): I’m not surprised to see Jarnkrok up on Nashville’s top line with Johansen and Forsberg, but it’s mildly astounding to see him also playing on the top power play unit. This all helps explain how he has managed to post 10 PTS in his last 14 GP. Jarnkrok’s equilibrium ownership value floated around 1% for most of last season. The Preds play 4 games this week, and at least 2 of those will be tough matches (NYI, Bos).

4) Anders Nilsson, Ott, (17% Yahoo ownership): It’s been an up and down season for Nilsson, who is always a risk to hurt your rate stats, but a good volume play when the Sens have a busy schedule. Over his last 10 GP, Nilsson has posted a 3.05 GAA and .904 SV%. The Sens play Florida-Tampa on Mon-Tue, and those are 2 of the highest scoring teams in the league. The Thu-Sat games against Nsh-Phi, are less dangerous.

5) Oliver Bjorkstrand, Cbj, (10% Yahoo ownership): I could almost cut and paste everything from the Nyquist analysis and paste it beside Bjorkstrand, one difference being Bjorks is up on the top line with Dubois, which translates into about 2 minutes of extra ice time per game. This is a talented player who has benefited from the exodus of scorers from the Blue Jackets line-up over the summer.

Last Week: Malcom Subban, Kevin Fiala, Mats Zuccarello, Tanner Pearson, Nate Schmidt

The 1% (best adds 1% owned or less):

1) Dante Fabbro, Nsh: Fabbro is on pace to score 21 PTS as a rookie, and hasn’t yet reached the level where he’s relevant in most fantasy leagues. He’s a quality prospect for dynasty formats. The Preds have a 4-game schedule and Fabbro has posted 4 PTS in his last 10 GP, so he’s a decent streaming option in those very deep leagues.

2) Tyler Ennis, Ott: The name Ennis has been popping up often lately when I’m searching for 1% owned players to recommend in a fantasy report. He has scored 9 PTS in his last 15 GP, averaging 14:23 of ice time. The Sens have a 4-game slate this week, so if you’re looking for streamers in a deep league with slim pickings on waivers, Ennis is on my list.

3) Derek Ryan, Cgy: It’s not a great streaming week for Calgary Flames, but Ryan has been seeing time on a line with Johnny Gaudreau since the coaching change in Calgary and has scored 6 PTS in his last 6 GP. There is currently volatility in those line combinations, but anyone playing with John Hockey needs to be more than 1% owned. Look for that number to climb significant if the assignment sticks.

Last Week: Alex Iafallo, Jonas Brodin, Scott Laughton
