Fantasy Hockey 2021/22 Week 15 Waiver Wire Report

Welcome to my 2021/22 Week Fifteen Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report for those competing in head-to-head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep league acquisition targets. This report focuses on the best options among those who are likely to be available in your league as opposed to the universally owned players. There are 10 recommendations in total, 2 goalies, 2 defensemen, and 6 forwards. Some of these are only short-term targets, while others you may want to keep permanently.

Best Standard League Adds (25% to 65% Yahoo ownership):

1) Evan Rodrigues, Pit, (59% Yahoo ownership): After a brief demotion to the 3rd line, E-Rod was promoted to the 2nd line with Evgeni Malkin on Sunday (as I’m wrapping up this report). I decided to delete Jeff Carter as a recommended add and replace him with Rodrigues. Pittsburgh has an outstanding schedule, facing Arizona, Seattle, Detroit, and LA with the potential for some high scoring games. Over his last 10 GP, Evan has scored 7 PTS with 29 shots. He also played on the Pens 2nd power play unit, collecting 2 PP PTS in his last 10 GP.

2) Viktor Arvidsson, LA, (42% Yahoo ownership): Arvidsson has made a few appearances on my fantasy rosters in temporary roles this season, though hasn’t been able to secure a permanent spot. He’s a useful streamer in standard sized leagues, as the Kings second line with Danault and Arvidsson has been productive. The pair also sees decent power play time on the 2nd unit. In his last 9 GP, Viktor has scored 10 PTS with 27 shots. Los Angeles has a 4-game week ahead, so you may also want to consider Alex Iafallo up on the top line with Kopitar.

3) Sam Girard, Col, (62% Yahoo ownership): This is not my first time recommending people add Sam Girard in a waiver wire report this season, and my previous endorsements had mixed results. The defenseman is on pace to score 47 PTS, but his shot and hit totals won’t help you much in category leagues. Girard works particularly well as a streamer this week because the Avs will be playing Mon-Wed-Fri-Sun, so he’s an easy fit into any roster. Jaccob Slavin is also riding a hot streak and the Canes have a great schedule this week.

4) Blake Coleman, Cgy, (26% Yahoo ownership): If you’re a long-time reader of my weekly waiver report, you know that Blake Coleman is a personal favorite of mine, though more so when he was getting lots of ice time in New Jersey. He was just a role player in Tampa, but is starting to get increased deployment in Calgary (2nd line, 2nd power play) and his shot-hit totals are rising accordingly. Over his last 8 GP, Coleman has scored 5 PTS with 32 shots and 17 hits. He can be a valuable streamer in category leagues when you need help in shots and hits.

5) Vitek Vanecek, Wsh, (55% Yahoo ownership): Vanecek saw his ownership dip in November as Ilya Samsonov won the primary starting gig, but Ilya’s play has slipped over the last 2 months. Vanecek has now started 4 of the last 5 games, bringing his full-season save percentage up to .909. The Capitals have slowed down lately, winning only 4 of their last 10 games. Granted they’ve won 3 of their last 5, so the cold streak may be warming. You may also want to try Cal Petersen (.919 SV% in his last 4 appearances), with the Kings playing 4 games.

Honorable Mentions: Cal Petersen, Jaccob Slavin, Jeff Carter, Reilly Smith, Alex Iafallo

Last Week: Noah Dobson, Anthony Duclair, Carter Verhaeghe, Tanner Jeannot, Pavel Francouz

Best Deep League Adds (under 25% ownership):

1) Brady Skjei, Car, (22% Yahoo ownership): Brady Skjei’s average fantasy ownership last season was 3%, and has spent most of the current schedule at 2%. His stock is currently trading at a 52-week high after scoring 8 PTS in his last 9 GP. We don’t typically see that level of production from this player, but the Canes have a strong schedule ahead, so strike while the iron is hot. The Pittsburgh Penguins also have a great schedule coming up, and Brian Dumoulin has scored 7 PTS in his last 10 GP, currently available in 95% of Yahoo leagues.

2) Erik Haula, Bos, (10% Yahoo ownership): Erik Haula is finally healthy and starting to deliver on the talent previously constrained by injuries. Playing center between David Pastrnak and Taylor Hall is a sweet assignment. It makes sense that he’s heating up, scoring 9 PTS in his last 12 GP, while adding 20 shots and 17 hits. He plays on the Bruins 2nd power play unit, chipping in some PTS with the man advantage. The Bruins have the same awesome Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat schedule as Colorado, including a matches against Arizona and the suddenly struggling Ducks.

3) Seth Jarvis, Car, (4% Yahoo ownership): The lines in Carolina are generally volatile and untrustworthy, but currently Jarvis and Neiderreiter are listed on the top line with Sebastian Aho. Seth is a blue-chip prospect with a high offensive ceiling who is surely owned in nearly every dynasty league. Over his last 9 GP, the rookie has scored 6 PTS with 12 hits. The Canes will be facing some porous defensive teams this week in their 4-game schedule, so it’s worth taking a swing on Jarvis as a streamer in deep leagues. You may just hit a home run.

4) Craig Smith, Bos, (7% Yahoo ownership): It’s a bit strange that Craig Smith has been playing on the top line with Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand for 2+ weeks and he’s still only 7% owned on Yahoo. The production has not been as exciting as the assignment, with Smith only scoring 1 point in his last 5 GP. The problem is, he’s not playing nearly as many minutes as his linemates. Over his last 12 GP, Smith has scored 6 PTS with 33 shots and 12 hits. As a streamer, Smith is 1 big game away from being a home run, available in 93% of leagues.

5) Alexandar Georgiev, NYR, (23% Yahoo ownership): Georgiev is sporting an unimpressive .902 SV% on the season, and gave up 6 goals in his last start vs Carolina. This isn’t an ideal streamer, but there is generally slim pickings in the deep league goalie add department. He qualified for this list based on the Rangers schedule, playing 4 games, with 3 of them against teams they should beat. Or you can keep an eye on Antti Raanta, who has been banged up, but may get a start vs Ottawa, Jersey, or San Jose. Or grab Aaron Dell vs Ottawa or Arizona.

Honorable Mentions: Kasperi Kapanen, William Karlsson, Denis Gurianov, Brian Dumoulin, Antti Raanta

Last Week: Karel Vejmelka, Alex Tuch, Trevor Moore, Brandon Montour, Luke Kunin
