Detroit Gets Great Value For Ian White
Well done Ken Holland signing 27 year old defenseman Ian White to a 2 year contract at $2.8M per season. Absolutely guaranteed that White had better offers on the table, both at longer term and for more annual salary. He will be earning less than Dan Girardi #3.3M, Trevor Daley $3.3M, Tom Gilbert $4M, Andrei Meszaros $4M, Dan Hamhuis $4.5M, and Zybnek Michalek $4M. That being said, I would much rather have Brian Rafalski than White, other than the 10 year age gap. Detroit still has $7M in cap space with most of their line-up already signed (minus a back-up goalie), so it would be nice to see them add a puzzle piece; preferably in a trade considering the lack of quality options left on the unrestricted FA list.
