Fantasy Hockey 2021/22 Week 6 Waiver Wire Report

Welcome to my 2021/22 Week Six Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report for those competing in head-to-head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep league acquisition targets. This report focuses on the best options among those who are likely to be available in your league as opposed to the universally owned players. There are 10 recommendations in total, 2 goalies, 2 defensemen, and 6 forwards. Some of these are only short-term targets, while others you may want to keep permanently.

Best Standard League Adds (25% to 65% Yahoo ownership):

1) Jordan Eberle, Sea, (36% Yahoo ownership): The Kraken might only play 3 games this week, but with jam-packed Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday nights, Seattle’s Wed-Fri-Sun schedule fits perfectly into any roster. Over his last 7 GP, Eberle has notched 7 goals, 2 assists, 20 shots and 9 hits. I have claims to add Jordan Eberle in both my 12-team standard leagues. I’m all in. His current 35% ownership is higher than I’ve recorded for him dating back to October 2019. Last season he averaged 19% with the Islanders.

2) Jared Spurgeon, Min, (65% Yahoo ownership) After scoring just 2 PTS in his first 8 GP, Spurgeon has scored 6 PTS in his last 6 GP (adding 16 shots and 9 hits), and the Wild will be playing 4 games this week. Spurgeon averaged 24% ownership in 2019/20 and 37% in 2021; then jumped up to 79% by October 1st. That spike in ownership may have been tied to the departure of Ryan Suter and the expectation that Spurgeon would see more power play time (which he is, by about 30 seconds per game on average).

3) Alex Nedeljkovic, Det, (50% Yahoo ownership): Nedeljkovic gave up 7 goals in his first start against Tampa, but has not surrendered more than 3 in any game since. Over his last 8 GP, the young netminder has posted a .930 SV% and 2.24 GAA. He has been splitting starts with Thomas Greiss, which explains why both goaltenders are owned in too few leagues given their numbers. In all likelihood, Nedeljkovic will get the starts against Dallas and Arizona, the second of which is nearly a guaranteed win.

4) Brandon Tanev, Sea, (56% Yahoo ownership): If you need to grind out some extra hits this week, you could add Marcus Foligno who plays 4 games, but 3 of those games will be on very busy nights. If Tanev is on your waiver wire, you can surely fit him into your starting-up all 3 of his matches. In 15 GP, Tanev has produced 8 PTS with 32 shots and 57 hits. That explains why his stock is trading at an all-time high (he averaged 23% owned in 2019/20 and 30% in 2021). He’s on pace to have the best season of his career.

5) Anders Lee, NYI, (44% Yahoo ownership): It was a lacklustre start to the season for Lee, but the pace is picking up with 3 goals in his last 3 GP. This is a player who is typically around 80% owned when healthy, but hasn’t been able to get into a groove. The Islanders schedule has been bizarre, playing fewer games and all of them on the road while waiting for their new building to be ready. He’s playing on the top line with Barzal and the top power play. He shoots and hits a lot. Lee’s stock is going nowhere but up.

Honorable Mentions: Marcus Foligno, MacKenzie Blackwood, Andrew Mangiapane, Shayne Gostisbehere, Ryan Hartman

Last Week: Anthony Duclair, Vitek Vanecek, Rasmus Andersson, Josh Norris, Jordan Kyrou

Best Deep League Adds (under 25% ownership):

1) Jaden Schwartz, Sea, (24% Yahoo ownership): One of the reasons Jordan Eberle has been on such a tear has been the help he’s getting from linemates Jaden Schwartz and Alex Wennberg. Those linemates are owned in fewer leagues, and are solid options if Eberle is not available. Over his last 7 GP, Schwartz has produced 8 PTS and 29 shots. The key difference is that Wennberg and Eberle are on the top power play unit, and get more time with the man advantage than Schwartz. Wennberg is 92% available to stream.

2) Anthony Beauvillier, NYI, (13% Yahoo ownership): Beauvillier, like many of his Islanders teammates, has been difficult to own in fantasy because of their wonky schedule (they have only played 4 games in the last 14 days). Anthony has been playing on the 2nd line with Nelson and Palmieri, plus the top power play unit. In his last 10 GP, Beauvillier has netted 6 PTS with 27 shots. The Isles will finally start playing home games this week, and their schedule is about to get busy. Many Isles players got dropped because of that light schedule, so more are available to add than there should be.

3) Thomas Greiss, Det, (15% Yahoo ownership): As discussed above, the Wings are playing 4 games and Greiss should get 2 of them (likely Columbus and a banged-up Vegas). Over his last 5 starts, Greiss did have rough outings against Boston and Toronto, but posted quality starts against Vegas and Washington twice. His SV% on the season is .909, but more importantly, he’s available in 85% of leagues. He’s hard to hold permanently when splitting starts, but is a solid streamer when the schedule aligns.

4) Dmitry Orlov, Wsh, (21% Yahoo ownership): The Washington Capitals play 4 games this week, all of them in the Pacific division. Granted, California may not be as fruitful a destination as it was the previous 2 years, but there’s still some big goal potential for a good team like Washington. Dmitry has scored 7 PTS in 14 GP with 21 hits. I recently added Orlov as a Fri-Sun streamer in a standard league, and plan to let it ride for at least the start of the week. You may want to wait and add him as a Sat-Sun streamer against San Jose and Seattle.

5) Lawson Crouse, Ari, (7% Yahoo ownership): If you need some extra deep league hits this week, look for either Lawson Crouse or Milan Lucic on your waiver wire. The advantage of adding Crouse is he gets much more ice time, and gets more shots because of that extra deployment. In 15 GP this season, Crouse has scored 7 PTS with 36 shots and 35 hits. If your league counts +/-, Coyote players can be a tough addition, though Crouse is only -3 on the season, so it could be much, much worse.

Honorable Mentions: Alex Wennberg, Andreas Johnsson, Filip Gustavsson, Filip Hronek, Milan Lucic

Last Week: Jonathan Quick, Robert Thomas, Michael Bunting, Anton Lundell, Brandon Montour
