Welcome to my 2021/22 Week Ten Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Report for those competing in head-to-head categories or rotisserie leagues. There are both standard and deep league acquisition targets. This report focuses on the best options among those who are likely to be available in your league as opposed to the universally owned players. There are 10 recommendations in total, 2 goalies, 2 defensemen, and 6 forwards. Some of these are only short-term targets, while others you may want to keep permanently.
Best Standard League
Adds (25% to 65% Yahoo ownership):
1) Conor Garland, Van, (65% Yahoo ownership): The best thing about streaming Conor Garland, is that you’ll get plenty of shots on goal, with some of those leading to points. The winger has scored 6 PTS with 27 shots in his last 7 GP, and currently finds himself on a line with Elias Pettersson, also getting deployed on the top power play. The Canucks will play 4 games this week, but you may want to wait until the weekend to get his Sat-Sun games against Toronto and Arizona. A fun player to watch and cheer for.
2) Jonathan Quick, LA, (47% Yahoo ownership): If there was a Boston goalie named Jerus Swaymark that combined their 2 goaltenders into 1 starter, he would be my top recommended add this week. The Bruins play 4 games this week and I’ll be riding the tandem in one league. But if you can only add 1 goalie, Jonathan Quick is on another heater in LA with a .975 SV% over his last 3 starts. The Kings will be playing 4 games, but the problem is that they’ll be playing 4 of the top 7 teams in the league. He’s scorching hot, but there’s also some risk.
3) Michael Bunting, Tor, (37% Yahoo ownership): Michael Bunting was a trendy sleeper heading into the season, based on speculation he could play on the top line with Matthews and Marner. That was slow to materialize in any sustainable and productive manner, but now Bunting finds himself on the top line with Matthews and has scored 13 PTS in his last 15 GP. The winger was just 15% owned on Nov 30, doubling over the last 2 weeks. The ceiling could be substantially higher than 37% if this continues.
4) Jaccob Slavin, Car, (47% Yahoo ownership): Jaccob Slavin has not blipped on my radar very often in the calendar year of 2021, submitting a very disappointing scoring performance in the pandemic shortened campaign. He already has nearly as many points through 25 GP as he recorded in 52 games last season. He got a boost in power play time with Tony DeAngelo in Covid protocol. Tony is out of prison this week, but my not get the power play gig back right away. If you need a few extra hits in a categories league, you could take Jake Muzzin for a spin this week.
5) Mikael Granlund,
Nsh, (65% Yahoo ownership): Granlund was among my recommended adds last week,
and the Predators have another busy schedule. If you added any as streamers,
may as well let it ride. Matt Duchene is currently banged up, so that top line
has lost some of its mojo. There are signs that the torrid pace is slowing
down, but I’m still willing to roll the dice on another week of streaming.
Granlund averaged 9% ownership last season, so his stock is trading at a
52-week high and may have reached its peak. Might be time to sell high in
deeper leagues.
Honorable Mentions: Josh Norris, Ryan Johansen, Boston Goalies, Reilly Smith, Jake Muzzin
Last Week: Trevor Zegras, Jake
Oettinger, Mikael Granlund, Marcus Foligno, Sam Girard
Best Deep League Adds
(under 25% ownership):
1) Eeli Tolvanen, Nsh, (23% Yahoo ownership): Tolvanen is currently deployed on a line with the red-hot Ryan Johansen (who is worth a stream himself), as well as the top power play while Matt Duchene is out. It has been a slow start to the season for the Preds young sharpshooter, but he’s starting to round into form, scoring 4 goals in his last 6 GP with 16 shots and 10 hits. Eeli is only 78 games into his NHL career, and is a more valuable commodity in dynasty formats. The future could be bright, but we’re waiting to find out. The skill is there.
2) Nino Niederreiter, Car, (23% Yahoo ownership): The lines in Carolina change with disturbing frequency, but the current alignment has Nino Niderreiter on the top unit with Aho and Teravainen. You can’t rely on that last until the end of the week, but every game he gets on that top unit is a fantastic opportunity. Nino has produced 8 PTS in his last 7 GP, with 9 hits and a +7. The shot totals are lower than you’d like to see, but the other peripherals help offset that deficiency. It’s a good week to own Hurricane players.
3) Ondrej Kase, Tor, (6% Yahoo ownership): The 3rd piece of that Matthews line in Toronto has been the oft-injured Ondrej Kase, who has scored 7 PTS in his last 7 GP. The longer he can stay healthy and stick on that top line, that ownership % has the potential to explode. Kase was a very productive player prior to his long-term injury, so if he’s finally healthy, there’s a potentially high ceiling. He has paced for 30-goals in previous seasons, and that was before getting paired with a dynamic center like Auston Matthews.
4) Charlie Lindgren, Stl, (15% Yahoo ownership): With Jordan Binnington and Ville Husso out of the line-up, Charlie Lindgren was catapulted into the Blues primary starting gig. Thus far Lindgren has played 3 games and registered 3 wins with a .947 SV%. Obviously, Charlie will lose most of his value once the other goalies get healthy, but he’s worth a short-term stream in the meantime if you’re desperate for goalie starts. The Blues only play 3 games, but Lindgren is a top streaming target for as long as it takes for Binnington to get healthy. He has cleared Covid protocol, but may not be ready to resume full-time duty right away. With Lindgren playing so well, Binnington won't be rushed back.
5) Oliver
Kylington, Cgy, (25% Yahoo ownership): Oliver Kylington has scored 8 PTS in
his last 16 GP, but has also gone pointless in 4 straight. It’s still hard to
estimate where he fits into the blueline hierarchy going forward, but the
Flames will play 4 games this week, so now is as good a time as any to give Oliver
an audition. Nicolas Hague in Vegas was a close 2nd for this slot,
and should provide you with more peripherals if you need more shots and hits
from your blueline. Vegas also has a more streamer friendly schedule.
Honorable Mentions: Seth Jarvis, Tanner Jeannot, Antti Raanta, Nicolas Hague, Jared McCann
Last Week: Ville Husso,
Rickard Rakell, Jamie Drysdale, Kaapo Kakko, Valeri Nichushkin
